The game allows users to import Guitar Hero songs, which is great if you already have that game, and users with an adventurous, do-it-yourself streak won't mind digging through the various Frets on Fire message boards to find additional songs. The game only comes with three songs, and while they're good, it didn't take long before we wanted others. We suspect that the thing about Frets on Fire that users are most likely to be disappointed in is the song selection. The default controls are arranged in such a way that users can hold the keyboard upside down like a guitar, which is fun, but the game can also be played using the keyboard in the standard position (good news for laptop users). The game supports the use of guitar-style controllers, but we just used our keyboard. A brief tutorial explains how the game is played and gives a few practice exercises. There are no fancy graphics to be found here users see the frets with the notes coming at them, and that's about it. The program's interface is attractive but simple. Although users seeking a full-featured guitar game will likely find this one lacking, we thought it was very good for what it is. Next, you will add that song to the in-game setlist using GHTCP.Frets on Fire is a basic but fun music game that's similar to Guitar Hero. The song should now be added to the GHTCP. Once this is done, click on "Apply" once again. Here, you will enter the song title, Artist, and Year (optional). This will take you to another pop up, "Song Properties". Once these steps are completed, click on "Apply" in the top right of the pop up. Open the notes.mid file from the same folder. Next, go down to "Chart File", and click on the "." to the right of it. You can preview the guitar.ogg below to make sure the file works properly. Open the guitar.ogg file from that folder. Now you will locate the folder where you extracted the song files to. After that, go down to where it says "Guitar Track", and click on the "." to the right of that. If you are following the example, type in "nottinghamlace" in the Song Name section. This will open a pop up where you will add the song files. Find the "Add" tab, click on it, and under that, click on "New Song". You will again need to use your file extractor to extract the files from the download into another folder. Download the song from the external website. This will take you to an external site where you can download the song. Scroll down to the list of songs, and find Nottingham Lace once again, and click on the download link on the right. Located under "My Official Career Packs", click on "Puppetz Hero Zero" this will take you to another thread with a setlist of songs from PHZ. The link will take you to a separate forum, which contains FoF user Puppetz. Notice that there are multiple links for the same song. Under "B", you will scroll down to find the artist Buckethead, and the song Nottingham Lace. The song used for an example is "Nottingham Lace" by Buckethead. Some of the download links will take you to a download/dropbox site where you can download the file, while others will take you to the thread which contains the song download.
